简介

Synchromism didn't start out to be a concept album during recording, but when it came time to pick which tracks would be included, and their order, a definite concept emerged. Synchromism tells a story of light to dark, birth to death; and, it parallels the passage of time during a day: from the hopeful, triumphant dawning of "Lights And Perfections," to midday ("Bliss"), sunset ("Memories Fade"), to the moody twilight feel of "Precipice," all the way to the eerie, black night of "Even After." The name "Synchromism" is a reference to an art movement from the early 1900's which theorized that color and sound are similar phenomena. The nod to this movement acknowledges that pieces of sound can be manipulated like colors of paint on a canvas -- similar to how those artists were using colors as musical notes. Hence, Synchromism is a collection of "visual music." Its abstract forms, when combined together, are meant to harmonize together and stimulate the emotions. Admittedly, all of the songs were made to simply sound good on the surface as well; but, there is a deeper layer understanding available to those who are able to listen for it. Recording in earnest for Synchromism started in July of 2009, with the completion, and release as a single, of the track "Good Thing" (which ended up being the most popular song on the album). The plans for an album were already in the works by then, but the enthusiastic reception of the first single helped to spur on production. Nevertheless, it would still take until the beginning of 2011 to finalize everything to do with the album: production, mastering, printing, etc. All instruments were performed by Donjay, except: an additional guitar on "Memories Fade (Everything Else Remains The Same)" by Bob Gibson; vocals on "A Disintegration Of Being" by Don Pro; lead guitars and additional keyboard & percussion on "A Disintegration Of Being" by Tom Hernandez; additional keyboard, percussion, & keyboard on "Time Stood Still" by Tom Hernandez; drum machine on "Bliss" by Spesh Boogie, AKA The Specialist; bass on "Good Thing" by Derek Bartholomew; background guitar on "Good Thing" by Martin Griffin; lead guitar on "Out And Away" by Kevin Street. All tracks were written, produced, and mixed by Donjay.
