简介

There was nothing to do in the swamps of Florida so we started a band. Giddy-Up, Helicopter! played our first show two hours after we formed the band. We wrote one song at our drummer's house, consumed eleven beers and drove to the nearest venue. After scaring half of the "acoustic open mic night" fans away we received requests for albums and future shows. So we were born accidentally (like a teenage pregnancy) and we've been working on our Sonic Youth inspired noise pop ever since. We listen to copious amounts of Sleater-Kinney, Songs:Ohia, Pinback, The Velvet Underground, Sunset Rubdown and (you guessed it) Sonic Youth. We filtered these influences and added a few others (namely small towns and beer) into writing our first full-length, "I Am Secretary." Soon after we took the material to the studio and recorded, mixed it and mastered it in TWO DAYS, thanks to a lack of funds and a sound engineer who was terribly addicted to Red Bull. Despite the rush, the record received quite a bit of attention. Tickets to our CD release party for "I Am Secretary" at Crowbar sold out; even Voxtrot, playing at the same venue a few months later, didn't do this. After our summer "Freedom Tour" ended in August of 2007 we began recording our newest record, "Something That Needs Nothing." Giddy-Up, Helicopter! decided this time to abandon the rushed studio approach (no more Red Bull) and take more time on our second full length album. The songs on our new LP are louder, sadder, more haunted and more complex than most of our prior material. Eric Snider from Creative Loafing says this about one of the tracks reviewed from the new record: "...warm 'n' fuzzy with its loping rhythm, luxuriant melody and the cozy vocal interplay of male singer Conner and female counterpart Nikki. Then a crescendo -- built around a soaring vocal chant and swell of instruments -- that'll raise the hairs on your neck." Come listen to us. Purchase our record and share it with your friends. If we ever get famous you can say that you knew about us way before your friends!
