Rising Sons is a commemorative album for the 100th Anniversary of the Gallipoli Landings by Australian and New Zealand personnel in World War 1. It is a pop/rock concept album, following the path of those ANZACs signing up back home preconceived notion of a great adventure before them, to fighting the bloody conflict along the ridges of the Gallipoli peninsula, and to returning home for the lucky few. 1. The Last Post - a guitar arrangement of the traditional bugle piece. 2. We Were Young - is a happy upbeat pop piece that tells the story of an 18 year old boy from a small New South Wales town, bored and wanting an adventure and joining the Light Horse. The song takes a turn for the worse when, after all the training and excited anticipation, he discovered the ugliness of war in the trenches at Gallipoli. 3. You Pommy Bastards - is a punk rock piece venting the anger and disappointment of an ANZAC as he and his comrades fought and died making a distraction to allow a British unit to advance on a bay called the Suvla. However they didn't advance and it was the "bitterest tang that wouldn't wash away." 4. For Our Lads - is a rock song with a touch of theatre. It is of the workhorse war effort at home by the women, boys and old men. The driving guitar and percussion in the piece coupled with the vocal ensemble gives the piece a real sense of factory. 5. Burning - A mournful piano Ballard of a 17 year old boy who managed to sign up despite being underage, shot and bleeding out between the trenches in no mans land crying out for his mother as he slowly dies. 6. Mount Up - An alternative rock piece on the medics of the Gallipoli conflict. Starting out very sparse and building up to a heavy crescendo representing the battle raging around them while they tend to the wounded. 7. I Will Fight - A rock song showing the inner conflict of the men fighting in the trenches. An internal fight between giving up and going on. 8. Going Home - Upbeat rock/pop piece as the title suggests, the lucky few getting the word they they're finally going home, going back to the streets of Melbourne and the constant flux of the weather. The album was recorded in Melbourne, Australia.
