For my granddaughter, Kendall's, first birthday, I compiled a Three CD set of songs I've been performing over the past 40 years. They encompassed many different genres, but the one thing all of these tunes had in common was I wished I'd written them! Great stuff from great writers which I've called Abuelo's (Grandfather's)favorites. When I set down to attempt to select the best of the collection to share with the public, it was extremely difficult, but I finally came up with "the dirty dozen", songs from J.J. Cale, Jim Croce, Shel Silverstein, Gary P. Nunn, T-Bone Walker, Ed Bruce, John Cafferty, Chuck Pyle, Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway, Hugh Moffat, Jimmie Rogers and Larry Weiss. There's something for everyone here. It will be several more years before my Nieta, Kendall, can appreciate all the tunes, but I had to lay them down while I still have my guitar and vocal chops. Ms. Sahlen, herself, resides in the seaside village of San Carlos receiving treatment for health problems she believes are the result of silicone breast implants in the 1970s. The disabling fatigue, pain and high medical costs forced the sale of her thriving lecture agency in Dallas, Texas in the late 1980s. "The silicone brain fog was tragic in a business where the spoken word is so integral.", Ms. Sahlen explained. For years she managed to work part-time at Austin's Paramount Theater, then later with Las Vegas agent, Sal Murillo, and 1960s rock diva, Spanky McFarlane . Even part time became physically impossible so Ms. Sahlen retired to Mexico where medical care is less costly.
