Glowfriends专辑介绍:by Jason MacNeilWith a touch of acoustic wit and songwriting intelligence that avoids the usual coffeehouse folk-pop style, the album by this duo is warm and alluring. Lead singer April Morris leaves the octave theatrics aside for a rawer, heartfelt delivery on "Lydia" and especially "Triple-Low." The alternative rock arrangements by Mark Morris have the bass at the forefront above most of the other instruments used in the style of early Yo la Tengo. In fact, the album contains a cover of Georgia Hubley's "Nowhere Near," which contains a certain tension that never diminishes over its four minutes. Songs such as "Forget About It" are extremely strong, recalling an early Sarah McLachlan or Jane Siberry over a dreary backdrop. The album tends to suffer somewhat from such constant woe and melancholia until "The One I'm Waiting For" picks up the musical pace with a delectable backbeat. "We Can't Save You From Yourself" meanders between the pop and downtrodden styles, a perfect merger regarding a lost soul. The closing "Green Light" is a blueprint for most of the album -- tender without being too soppy.
