This album borrows several elements from its predecessor In Loneliness Of Two Souls , although I find it a bit lighter, pushing the melancholic aspect a little further and favoring the atmosphere, semi-symphonic sound over the metallic shredding found on the aforementioned album. The vocals are varied, from low and heavy Death growls, to clean male vocals, to clean female vocals - which after several listens I still think sound a little out of place, but not bad per se. By the Candles Obsequial is really a sad-sounding melancholic trip that feels like a long car trip under the rain - it''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s relaxing, gloomy and after a while you want it to end (curiously not really in a bad way, unlike the car trip.) The guitars and drums are rather relaxed, fitting the mood of the album, although I would have hoped for a little more punch anyway. A few outer-space-ish and even 70ish sound effects are scattered here and there - weird, but interesting. Atmospheric, tame and a tad too melancholic, if you want some ass-kicking Doom you''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''ll have to look elsewhere, but if you want something "quiet", this should do the trick. Not bad, but In Loneliness Of Two Souls is more my kind of thing.
