Album Title: Brand Niu Day Artist: AKay47 Label: Fuzzy Wuzzy Vinyl / 2012 Release The title of this album is taken off the title track (track one) which is a reflection on what people said to me when I told them I was leaving Australia to go back to PNG. They told me, “You’re taking two steps back”, which is true in many ways but I still feel like we’re developing as a people and musically progressing. So I say in the chorus, “I’m taking two steps back, one step forward, out of this place (PNG) and into the world.” This is my hope for music in our region (Melanesia & the pacific) to grow and for our stories to be heard and talent to be seen around the world. There is a vast array of talent in the islands and this album only shows a small portion of those voices. All vocalists are from or were born and raised in PNG. As we say, wan bel em istap (pidgin), ita be boga tamona (motu), we come from the one origin… one place, Papa graun. Firstly a big thank you to YOU, the listener for taking the time to listen to this music! I hope you enjoy the journey you are about to embark on. To all the vocalists who helped contribute to this album. Couldn’t have done it without you!!!! Big props to Damo, Ubee, Hanley, Gideon, Gibson, Tattz, Lawgii Lawgz, Black Bones, Honz, Kenny Hustle, Moses (moshanty) Tau, DK, Travis Lee and of course bata Oshen! Especially those who were there from the beginning when I was writing songs in my dorm room in high school (thanks Gig, Connie & Taz) to DJing in dark dingy clubs (thanks Habebe, Guy Willow & shrimp!) with a few patrons and the bar staff been the only people to entertain ha ha... humble beginning’s, happy days ☺ Thanks for always being there to support me and my music.
