“Turns Your Heart Around” honors the beginning of Bossa Nova. It is the first ever recording of the English lyric to the Brazilian classic: “Chora Tua Tristeza” — composed in 1956 by Oscar Castro-Neves / with new English lyrics by Lorraine Castro-Neves, and known as the 2nd million seller of Bossa Nova. Recorded in Rio de Janeiro by Alexandra Jackson for her instant classic “Alexandra Jackson: Legacy & Alchemy” album, the track is performed as a wonderful duet of Ms. Jackson and American vocalist Chris Walker. Masterfully produced by arranger / keyboardist / flautist Larry Williams, who leads a stellar rhythm section that includes the great Chicago Bassist Darryl Jones, and Brazilian masters: Teo Lima (Drums), Armando Marcal (Percussion), Ricardo Silveira (Guitar), and Pretinho da Serrinha (Percussion). As with the entire “Legacy & Alchemy” album, this track fully embraces Brazilian music, while adding identifiable American touches. “Turns Your Heart Around” perhaps more than any other song on the album embodies the approach of an authentic melding of Chicago R&B and Bossa Nova. Indeed, the “legacy” of the music is the song, Oscar Castro-Neves and Bossa Nova, and the “alchemy” of the music is the collaboration of the Brazilian and American musicians supporting Ms. Jackson and Mr. Walker -- all paying homage to Oscar’s great legacy. The outcome of this Brazilian-American collaboration is what album Executive Producer / co-Producer Robert Hebert refers to as “Chicago Bossa Nova.”
