On e of Tchaikovsky's early works, his first Piano Concerto was initially fraught with controversy. It was so original, that its many striking beauties went unheard. It eventually achieved huge popularity following the world premiere in Boston, Massachusetts in October, 1875.

The full concerto runs 38 minutes, and young Christopher Tavernier, already a concert pianist at age 14, plays with mastery and virtuosity. His teacher, John Cobb, plays the orchestral accompaniment.
