Joshua Luke Brister, 28, was born in New Orleans, but raised and reared in the unapologetic state of hospitality: Mississippi. Son of a youth director, much of his childhood was spent in the church. At a young age, he grew to love the community that the church brought. But as an aspiring worship leader, he became aware that too many churches were merely sleeping giants, and that new, relevant, and inspired worship music would be its clarion call to wake up. At the age of 25, he moved to Barcelona, Spain as a missionary and an English teacher. He quickly became involved in worship leading at a nearby church, and saw an immediate need for worship music to be written, not translated, in Spanish. After recruiting musicians from all over the world living in Spain, he helped start a worship project called "Proyecto En," whose debut album has been downloaded in over 45 countries. Now, back in Mississippi, Josh has a new project in the works. He is enlisting the best musicians and songwriters Jackson has to offer, in hopes of creating a modern record that can appeal to a diverse audience; equally as relevant at a church as it would be at the local pub. The variety of genres he hopes to capture range from singer/songwriter to gospel to folk to contemporary worship. He is teaming up with the likes of Jesse Coppenbarger, Taylor Hildebrand, Tyler Kemp, Topher Brown, and Ty Garvey to help make this bold attempt of an album a reality. The sounds created from this project are certain to contain the familiar pulses of worship, only now mixed with the soul that can only come from a place like Mississippi.
