简介
By the end of 2006, Obiwon emerged as one of Nigeria’s latest and most promising r’n’b sensations, with the release of his solo full length debut album, Overture. Hit tracks such as Streetz Of Lagos, Get ‘Em Off Me and the compelling ballad, Onyinye are currently burning up the Nigerian air waves and charts. Obiwon is still a member of the award-winning hiphop collective Thoroughbreds but has sought a solo career to fully express himself as an r’n’b/soul artiste. The result has been massive media attention, an increased fan base, shows and a buzz which has eventually compelled him to leave his initial day job as a banker to focus on his growing musical career. Born June 9th 1977, Obi has been honing his skills ever since his first listen to such groups and artistes as Dynasty, Shalamar, Michael Jackson and later on R.Kelly, Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill and John Legend. Additionally, a curious ear to Nigerian highlife greats such as Celestine Ukwu, Goddy Ezike and Osita Osadebe have helped shape the “afro” feel of his r‘n’b/soul music which he brands “Jdi Music”. Jdi Music is also the name of his independent label which has released Overture as a collaboration with his management outfit, Now Muzik. The Overture Videos have become major favourites in Nigerian T.V stations and musical programs due to their creativity and originality. Onyinye features a guest appearance by Big Brother Nigeria runner-up, Francisca Owumi while Get ‘Em Off Me is conceptually tilted to The Matrix movie. Streetz of Lagos is yet to be released in Nigeria and depicts everyday life in West Africa’s commercial hub, while the 3-D animated Get ‘Em Up was initially released in 2005 as the lead single for an E.P of the same name, which heralded the album Overture.
