简介

Singer-songwriter Cynthia Haring, a native of Iowa, launched a Midwest Tour for the "Walking in a Memory" album in May 2017. In its first week of release, the album placed on a Billboard Top-10 Heatseeker regional chart, coming in at #6. The album celebrates 90 years of doo wop, pop, swing and soul. Katia Valdeos and Margie Spinoza, who often perform with Cynthia during live shows and in the studio, joined the Midwest Tour. Katia, a native of Peru, is a co-producer of the new album, as well as a co-director of the World Nation music group. Through her Peruvian musical heritage, she brings different instruments to World Nation shows such as “el cajon” (the Afro-Peruvian box drum), “la cajita’ (the small box), and “rain sticks,” made by the Shipibo Indians of the Peruvian jungle. Margie has extensive experience as a singer with World Nation, the Sue Sue Sisters, and the Nature Coast Singers of Florida, as well as with the Arts and Medicine program at Moffitt Cancer Center where she and Cynthia regularly perform. During the tour, the group performed nostalgia songs from nearly every decade from the 1920s to the present. Among the 20s, 30s & 40s songs performed “You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby,” “Ma,” “Mister Sandman,” "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” and “I Don’t Know Why.” From the 50s, 60s & 70s, they performed “Life Could Be a Dream" (Sh-Boom), “Sukiyaki,” “Silhouettes,” “Come Go with Me,” "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel," “Mountain of Love,” “Rock Around the Clock,” “Calendar Girl,” some Beatles classics, Maroon 5's "Love Somebody" and more. Cynthia & Katia frequently include talented children and teens in their shows, on albums, and at special events. This album continues that tradition. Featured young singers on the album include Tad Andris ("Ma"), Lexi Burkley ("Heaven"), Caitlin Matthews ("Sukiyaki"), Marcos Trujillo ("Love Somebody"), and Madison Dedcovich and Savannah Meier ("Beautiful Baby"). Some industry pros highlight the album, specifically Lettrice Lawrence ("When the Saints Go Marching In") and Richie Merritt of the original Marcels and Steve Horn ("Come Go With Me"). A portion of the proceeds from “Walking in a Memory” will go to support the Caryl Haring Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Davenport Schools Foundation. Cynthia started the scholarship fund after her mother passed away in 2012. The scholarships are awarded yearly to graduating seniors wanting to “make a difference” in education, as Caryl did during her 40 years of teaching. The fund has awarded more than $10,000 since inception.
