Though she did not produce this effort, it sounds rather much like she could have, as it strays not far at all from the formula Krauss infuses her own work and that of her protégé band, Nickel Creek, with. It's not that there's anything particularly wrong with the formula; it's more that there's nothing particularly special about its results. Armerding's writing, performing, and producing are not what would be considered especially offensive to the senses. Yet the sum total of the album is far more sanitized and safe than it is challenging and engaging. The things Krauss have going for her are her distinctive voice and amazing backing band. Even Nickel Creek has their soaring harmonies to fall back on. Armerding has none of that in his corner. He's out there trying to do it all on his own. Perhaps that's where things went astray.
