简介
These are Greek folk songs that have been out of print for many years. I call them the "lost recordings" because they have not been available for so long. You will hear the first recording (very primitive) ever done by my brother Jim (Dimitrios Pappas) on lavouto and me on klarino. We recorded it in the basement of our San Francisco Victorian home in 1967. I put that one on for fun. The other recordings are done by me and my bands. My first band was "Meraklides" and I led that band from about 1962 until 1971. From 1971 to the present, my band has been called "T'Adelphia" (the brothers). It is a family band consisting of my brother Jim and I, my koubaro George Doukas, my wife Paula, and my son Stathi. This is authentic, village style Greek folk music, and these are all from live recordings done about 40 years ago. Included are Greek folk songs and dances played on the real, authentic folk instruments: the Klarino (Greek Albert system clarinet); the Bouzouki (3 double string original bouzouki); the Lavouto (Greek lute); the Baglamas (small Bouzouki); the Pontian Lyra (kementse, Greek bowed instrument from the Black Sea); and the Violi (Greek style violin). The main styles of music here are the "Demotika" or folk songs of the mainland of Greece, and the "Rebetika" or taverna style bouzouki music of the seaport taverns of Greece and the islands. Some of the dance tunes are for the "Pan Hellenic" dances done by all Greeks, such as the Syrtos, the Tsamikos, and the Hasapikos. Some of the songs are for particular regional dances, such as the Tripotis, the 'Kariotikos, and the Miteritsa. Of special interest are the two Demotika songs sung by the famous, great singer, Athanasios Evgenikos. He was a very good friend of mine and often sang with my band.
