ALVON JOHNSON | The Blues Chose Me Following the successful reception of Alvon Johnson’s last CD titled “The Blues Grew Up”, he has spent the last few years touring internationally in places such as Italy, France, Russia, Portugal, Hungary, Lithuania, Spain, and many more countries as well as all around the USA. When Alvon Johnson decided it was time to start recording this album, he was inspired by his strong family ties and history. As an artist he was also compelled to describe in song, the world that he was living in. The songs are a narrative based on deep emotional connections and are a revelation of the real Blues art form. Evidence of the realness of this project is the photo of his great grandparents on the back of the CD cover. A photo that was taken not long after they were freed from slavery. One line from the title track states, “My music is my tribute, it comes from deep down in my Soul”. Musically, Alvon Johnson covers a wide variety of styles from Rock to acoustic Blues. “I Love the Blues” is a country blues which includes a Tuba playing the bass line, a Banjo holding down the rhythm, and a host of other assorted acoustic instrument. “The Blues Chose Me” is a tribute to his Grandfather who taught him about Dignity and his Great grandparents who endured. Hard gut bucket Blues with deep passion. “Heaven is a beautiful Instrumental which displays passion and depth in Alvon Johnson’s abilities on the guitar. “Breakfast inBed” is an unapologetic love song that must be told. Based on the Southern Soul style of groove with horns and soulful backup vocals. “Death Letter” is a remake of the legendary Son House song. Guitar, Tamborine and Violin and voice describes the pain and sorrow of this song. “Frustration” includes a bowl of Reggae and a portion of Jimi Hendrix to describe a day full of frustration while displaying a positive attitude about life. “Look at the World” is a mid-tempo funky grove inspired by our current issues in the world.
