Mix It Up, Vol. 3
简介
Mix It Up Vol. 3 EP drops on Friday, just in time for summer. Featuring international artists A$AP NAST, Teni and Unknown T, and South African producers Duppy, Nkulee and Toby Franco. 1. Come Close - Teni’s solo instalment on the Mix It Up Vol.3 EP is ‘Come Closer’, is an energetic track that’s a testament to Teni’s extensive music experience and effortless talent. Driving the track from the get-go is the heavy kick and percussion you’d expect from any good Amapiano beat, but it becomes clear when the vocals come in accompanied by guitar that this is no ordinary Amapiano track. Teni’s vocals flow effortlessly, consistently well performed but introducing another layer of excitement with each new section. The production is strong and rich, full of bass and melodic joy that incite movement from the start. There are small nuances in rhythm and texture that make this song special, still sitting comfortably among the countless Amapiano hits in the world today but could only come from the self-proclaimed prince of Amapiano Toby Franco. The use of guitar is a testament to the commitment and artistic vision of both Teni & Tony, bringing real depth to a song about love and passion but keeping it joyful and a treat to listen to. 2. No Police - From East London to South Africa, British rapper and Homerton’s finest Unknown T, highly regarded for pushing the boundaries of contemporary rap music, turns up the heat to bring us the powerhouse 'No Police' produced by Amapiano Wonder-boy Duppy. Ironically the perfect song to disturb the neighbours, a wall of sound emerges from the speakers from the second it starts. Undoubtedly created for the club, the kick drum thumps like a hammer hitting a nail, wrapped in haunting synthesisers and African percussion. Unknown T's vocals become something of a hypnotic chant in the chorus carrying the weight of his unique voice, moving into a verse that doesn't disappoint. This blend of UK Drill and Amapiano is exciting and infectious, something only really seen done before on previous volumes of Nando's Mix It Up EPs, and one where Unknown T feels at home. 'No Police' is unapologetically brash and a serious track sure to test the best of Sound-systems. 3. Livin My Life - 'Living My Life' is a breath of fresh air in the modern Amapiano scene, a melting pot of global talent and influences spiced up in only the way Nandos can. SA producer Nkulee’s production is a superb blend of thumping Amapiano and exceptional musicality carried by beautiful electric piano and live bass. The rhythms feel very familiar and yet they're juxtaposed with R&B chords akin to classic Neo-Soul records. Teni's vocals are free formed but still delivered with purpose, intricately weaving infectious lyrics that create an uplifting listening experience. Pushing the boundaries of what it means to 'Mix It Up', US Rap heavy-hitter A$AP Nast joins Teni on the track, and although an unlikely collaboration, it's a perfect fit for a project fuelled by the beauty of unlikely combinations. A$AP Nast's verse is punchy and straight to the point, delivered with all the swagger you'd expect in a short-but-sweet package. Musically enriched with Jazz and R&B, 'Living My Life' still finds its essence deeply rooted in African culture and is the result of the influences of everyone involved in the creation process being laser-focused by being in one room at the same time.
