简介
Terry Black is a vocalist, songwriter, producer, recording engineer, keyboardist, music arranger, programmer, and a live performer that was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio. This is a place long heralded as the breaking ground for some of Americas most classic and influential R&B acts including The Ohio Players, Roger and Zap, The Ojays, Shirley Murdock, Lakeside, Ce Ce Peniston, LeVert, Bone Thugs and Harmony, Lil Bow Wow, and most recently, John Legend. Terry began his musical ambition under the inspiration of his uncle, Daniel Smith, who gave him his first experience in a studio that his uncle owned and operated. From that point on Terry continued to seek the knowledge from many other influences both in production as well as in singing and songwriting such as James Brown, Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Babyface, Teddy Riley, Smoky Robinson, and of course the great Marvin Gaye. Terry began pursuing music professionally by joining multiple groups in light of the New Edition era. He has performed with many artists like LeVert, Natalie Cole in the Miller Sound Express, EU, and had the opportunity to open for Roger and Zap. Later, he worked behind the scenes by reproducing a track for jazz musician, Nelsen Rangell. He has also written tracks as well as songs for many other up incoming artists. He recorded his first solo album “Twilight” while going to school in Houston, TX to be a graphic designer. After college he returned to Ohio however due to the lack of support for either music or graphic design in the state he moved west to Denver, CO. He tried to put himself in the mainstream of the music community in Denver by working at Guitar Center in sales and thus began his networking. This also helped him achieve his thirst to be on the forefront of technology and shortly thereafter he was able to put together enough equipment to start his own studio. While sharpening his skills as music producer/engineer, Terry then focused his attention on the development of the duel vocal group “BLACKMAC” consisting of himself and vocalist Benjamin Macklin Jr., also from his hometown Springfield, OH. Terry’s love of music and creativity opened many doors and opportunities such as producing the theme song to KTVD-Denver’s UPN 20’s and KS107 FM’s “Gimmie the Mike” This was a Colorado broadcast version of American Idol. Terry’s recent solo project entitled “Selfish” is a compilation of all he has learned through his many years of growth and development within the music industry. Selfish is solely about distinctive songwriting and fusing together all of the elements of producing quality sound and artistry. In his music, he gives us nothing but the essence of true R&B, funk, soul, hip hop, and a little twist of jazz in every music production. Terry Black creates a sound that is refreshing and is as cutting edge as anything in the music industry today. Come and experience the soul of Terry Black.
