After creating the album masterpiece, THE END, in 2016, Ron Brunk “retired” due to a bad bout of gout that filled him with doubt and made him shout and spout alliterated axioms of angelic angst. Then the album and the song “Deep Is The Night” took off and reignited interest in his music around the world. In January 2017, the Spirit told Ron to buy a battered, old piano. And so he did. The piano began to weep and dream, leap and scream, as Ron ruminated and rolled in pools of blood, jasmine, rock riffs and antihistamines. By mid-February, all the songs on Zero Hour (including Vodorig Spinka) were written, and he was off to the studio. Brunk has this to say about the recording process: “My dear friend and frequent musical collaborator, Paul Allen, played a huge role on this record. Of course, for the past few years, Paul has kept very busy recording and performing with artists like Adele, Big & Rich, Sebastian Bach, Richard Marx, and Jewel. But he had some time available, so we put together a tight little rock band and headed in studio.” “Our plan from the beginning was to make Zero Hour a “band” record, and we nailed it. On my last few records, I’ve mixed and matched – some might say to excess – by sometimes using different sets of musicians on many of the songs. But this time, I wanted to get back to the basics, so to speak. We cut the entire record in about two weeks, and it sounds really SUPER tight and dynamic. I really think this is my best work yet, although THE END, my previous record, was quite an accomplishment as well. I’m just so very thankful that people have responded to my music in such a positive way. That has been such a powerful blessing.” The Vodorig Spinka project took on a separate life of its own as Scott Mulvahill fell in love with the song and decided to take over the reins as Producer on the track. Scott is a highly revered, super-talented musician whose primary gig is playing upright bass in Ricky Skaggs' fabulous, world-class band Kentucky Thunder. On Vodorig Spinka, Scott built on Ron's piano and vocal tracks, adding percussion (Johnny Rees), bass, violin and cello. The result is....well, hear for yourself. Your ears will thank you. The aged and enigmatic hermit, Teddy Mills, reviewed Zero Hour and Vodorig Spinka thusly: “I dub thee Industrial Americana Folk Indie Rock akin to an introspective freight train hauling nitroglycerin and cicada wings.
