简介
Like Charles Bukowski fronting Crazy Horse, we wanted to be literate yet loud, even a little sludgy. We set the time machine to 1972 and let the chips fall where they would. We met in a writing workshop at Binghamton University. The professor was insane, mostly in a good way. So we named ourselves after her. It was a Lynyrd Skynyrd joke. The band on this one is Ian Parfrey (vocals and guitar), Frank Giliberti (lead guitars), Ryan Egan (bass), and Jared Harel (drums and percussion). It was recorded and mixed by Frank, in Binghamton, Woodbury, and Massapequa Park. Some of this material was road tested at New York City places like Kenny's Castaways, The Continental, The Lion's Den, CBGB's Annex, The Nutty Irishman, and Massapequa's own Blue Parrot, where we were heckled into playing "Locomotive Breath" by a drunk old lady who did not care for our originals. Other songs grew out of jams and studio experiments, and so were not really road tested at all. It took a lot of coffee and cannabis to make this. They kind of cancel each other out, leaving trace elements of each. We also listened to everything T Rex ever recorded, though we should have stopped at Tanx. This is the first chapter of Heywood; if we skim ahead you can hear the tales of how the band morphed for the next album, how the bass player joined a Buddhist monastery to escape the city(and us), and how Heywood is writing and recording more songs for a 3rd album of colorful tales from wayward characters.
