16 year old Steenika Gilbert from Wiarton Ontario, is inspired by a plethora of musical genre's and local artists in the Owen Sound, Bruce Peninsula area. Steenika was 15 years old when she wrote this song and has taken it to the next level with the help of her incredibly talented mentor/guitar teacher Drew McIvor. Steenika Gilbert is a 16 year old, grade 11 student from Peninsula Shores District School on the Bruce Peninsula. She has had a passion for music since birth and would describe her musical taste as yummy and eclectic. She is drawn to strong and creative vocals with a hint Motown, blues, rock and pop. She has been described as having a “caring demeanor which keeps everyone around her on the bright side of life and her music is like sun shining through the trees,” (Mossy Gatherings). Steenika has a presence that evolves while she is on stage. When she begins to sing, you can feel the emotion emanate as the intimacy of her lyrics entwine with the sound of her voice. For a fresh young entertainer, her musical expression will only continue to strengthen and transform the more she challenges herself. She attributes this growth to a supportive family which includes her musical mentors; Drew McIvor and Tara McKenzie. Christmas Wish List, written by Steenika Gilbert and produced by Drew McIvor, was released on CD Baby Dec 2, 2015. It is described as a contemporary Holiday song, having an upbeat 50’s sound, with a tip of the hat to doo wop Motown. Steenika has performed at many public and private events such as: NHL Alumni game, opened for Hammerton, Wagler and O’Neill-a Mossy Gathering Event, the Wiarton Willie Festival, Bruce Peninsula Multi-sport Race, the OPP Veterans day, the Ride Don’t Hide Even- for Canadian Mental Health, Rocking for the Food Bank Fundraiser, Northern Confections-Wiarton Wednesday Events, Culture Event with the Bruce County Public Libraries, the Bleeding Carrot, as well as many other events. Along with her love for music, Steenika is heavily involved in sports with her favourite being basketball.
