简介
The Flutterbies are Los Angeles’ hottest alt-country upstarts. Fierce and fashionable, lead singer Maureen Davis fronts the band with a dusty, honey smothered voice that “…oozes sass and soul…” (Music Connection, April 2009). Equal parts romance and riot, Maureen and The Flutterbies (pronounced the “flutter-byes”) seduce with pop sweetness and satisfy with bluesy grit. The group’s debut EP The Flutterbies featuring Maureen Davis was produced by slide guitarist Bart Ryan, engineered by Grammy winner Seth Atkins Horan, and co-written with Powerpop luminary Adam Daniel. The recording also showcases the talents of drummer Christopher Allis, bassist Steve Whalen, keyboardist Jamieson Trotter, and backup vocalist Molly Pasutti. Since its release in March 2009, the single “Hummingbird Heart” has been featured in-auditorium before screenings at Laemmle and Angelika theatres nationwide and has also become the theme for GetToKnowUsFirst.org, a campaign to reverse California’s Proposition 8. In April The Flutterbies were named Country Group of the Year at California’s South Bay Music Awards, and have since been nominated for the 2009 Independent Music Awards, judged by Aimee Mann and the Black Keys. The Flutterbies’ Maureen first came to public attention as part of the original cast of the Tony-winning Broadway musical Into The Woods (starring Bernadette Peters). After touring Japan and Russia with renowned jazz vibraphonist Gary Burton, the diminutive diva capped her New York career performing at Carnegie Hall before running away to the circus: the Hollywood rock scene. Soon after arriving, Maureen signed a publishing deal with Mastersource music, brainchild of Wayne’s World actor/musician turned film music entrepreneur Marc Ferrari, quickly securing multiple song placements on hit TV shows such as House, Dexter, and My Name Is Earl. In 2007 she became vocal instructor at Santa Monica’s School of Rock/Rock Nation, teaching innocent children to wail like rock stars. And in 2008 Maureen toured America singing raw gospel with Michelle Shocked before forming The Flutterbies. A smooth lyricist with a sultry delivery, Maureen sums up her life and her band: “For me, it’s veni, vidi, voce—I came, I saw, I sang… I flutter by.”
