"I'm really A Nice Guy", the 4th and final album from emcee/comic book artist Captain Asshole is a great blend of fun, love, and emotions as Captain finally comes to accept the fact that he is really a nice guy. "The name Captain Asshole doesn't really fit me anymore because I'm really a nice guy, actually"... Captain states while completing the final touches on the album artwork for CD case. "I still love music and enjoy to write lyrics and express myself vocally so this isn't my final album ever, just the last one with the persona of an Asshole." This is also the first Captain album since the 2008 release "Zombie" in which Captain's long time friends and producers Ley and Lotis shared complete production duties on the record (as with all Captain's previous records). On "Nice Guy..." Capt. ventures out beyond his comfort zone of his Halo fam producers and uses the production of San Francisco Bay Area producers Rylante (Homemade Hits), Kyrst 1, and SV, Sacramento producer Phyrus Styles, and 2 new powerful tracks from Lotis (who now goes by the name of Grim). Also new to this album is the collaboration of the "Handsome Little Bigfoot" group, featuring fellow comic book artist (Bracamonster) and comic book writer (Foodie) emcees, on the track "Spiderman 50". "That track started out as a fun song to kind of introduce the 3 of us together as a group, as it was out first song all recording together. We had a couple of drinks and before you know it we were recording drunk... and you can hear it in the song, but that's what makes it a fun listen" says Capt. Another voice you hear on the album is that of another fellow comic book artist Age Scott on "Shenanigans" produced and engineered by Rylante out of Vallejo,CA. This is the first time Age has appeared on a Captain Asshole album since his 2002 solo debut 'Soiled". "We had a lot of fun on that song, it's silly of course.. but we were just laughing a lot during the recording and having a lot of fun, really." says Captain. The album shows a lot of growth in Captains demeanor, and you can actually see why he feels the name "asshole" doesn't really stick anymore. On the track "Drag Me Away" Capt. puts his heart on his sleeve and tells just how strong his feelings go for the love of his life. During the duration of this album Mike Hampton (Captain's real name) moved out of Sacramento, CA and went north of the US border to Canada. it was there in Halifax, NS that Mike recorded "Fly Like An Eagle Eye" which was produced by SV and recorded at Spaces Between Studios. "That song was meant to go along with a comic book I was developing called Eagle Eye & The Quail, but we never made the cd to actually go along with the book, so I just saved it for the next album." says Capt. That song is actually the transition song for Captain where he states, "Let bygones by bygones and oh by the way...this time I mean it, have a nice day!" The album highlights are the 2 new tracks that are produced and feature guest vocals by Grim. "What's Left In Me" Captain tells how no matter what his downfalls have been, and what he has been faced with, he is not ready to give up. The other Grim produced track 'Therapy" is "probably the most emotional song I have ever recorded" says Capt. Grim plays the voice of a therapist while Captain releases some of his darkest secrets and deepest feelings. "It was almost scary hearing it back for the first time after Grim mixed it.. hearing my voice like that." says Capt. "I wanted to do some more mixing to the track , but Mike needed it for a deadline so I had to finish it quick." says Grim. The album was debuted at the December 9th Sac-Con (a long-time running comic book convention in Sacramento, Ca). There are also 3 "bonus tracks" originally released as an EP for the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con. All 3 were produced by Grim (which at the time was still going by the name of Lotis). There is also some amazing artwork on the CD jacket from Colin Fix, who currently works at Lucas Arts, disc art by Jim Mafood, and a sketch of Captain from comic book legend Dan Brereton. Overall the album is a really like a compilation of songs recorded over the last couple of years. I hope listeners enjoy the album and have fun with it. Who know what will come next.. -Capt.
