简介
Karl Andriuk’s latest effort is truly an Edmonton project, as the musicians all have roots in the northern capital. With the help of Brent Collisson on drums, Andrew Degroot (Owls by Nature) on bass and Marek Forysinski (Manic Phase productions) on synthesizer, The Limited Sky proves to be a diverse and yet directed delivery of well-crafted material. Working entirely from his home studio, Karl has completed a body of work from songs he wrote late 2011. “This writing really follows in the tradition of a singer/ songwriter approach, composed primarily on a guitar and a note pad” he says. However, the arrangements transcend this simplicity with full band instrumentation and the use of synthesizers. “I wanted to create a timeless feel with the production but it is a fine line to follow-I hope people will realize it is intentional” he says. “I think we really did develop some unique and great moments on this album.” Karl has been gigging since the ‘80s when, at the age of 19, he sought out Alberta’s small-town country dives. “We had to play country, but also blues, R&B, 50’s rockabilly, top 40, and classic rock. It was challenging from a performance perspective,” says Andriuk. Andriuk spent 12 years performing in various band and venue across Western Canada . He went on to graduate from Grant MacEwan’s diploma in music, as well as spending several years in Florida and Boston. Karl Andriuk now resides in Edmonton, with his wife Meredith and their newly arrived daughter, Isla where he continues to write and record. BIO Karl Andriuk was born in Mayorthorpe, Alberta but grew up in Edmonton and St. Albert, Alberta. He gained an interest in playing music when he was around 12. Karl started his professional career when he was 19 and continued to play full-time until the age of 33. From there, Karl concentrated on writing music and on my academics and worked part-time in the clubs and bars. Karl is very much influenced by roots and folk music and tends to draw inspiration from Country and Blues and Folk. However, he has maintained an avid interest in all forms of music and music history. Most of Karl’s early commercial gig experiences were rural and remote locations far from his hometown of Edmonton. Travelling to the North West Territories many times, as far East as Ontario and then West to Vancouver Island and into the US. The audiences were diverse culturally, racially and from varied socioeconomic backgrounds. Karl carries these experiences and influences with him to this day. Karl returned school at the age of 28 to attend Grant MacEwan’s music program. However, he continued to play full-time in and around the Edmonton area. After graduating with a performance degree in the Jazz Program, Karl finished a BA in Sociology with a minor in music from the University of Alberta. Here, in Edmonton, he met his future wife who has dual citizenship with Canada and the US. She wished to continue her education in her mother’s home state of Florida, so they moved to Daytona Beach, FL in the spring of 2001. They spent 3 years in Florida and then 4 years in Boston. The time away from Canada, especially Western Canada only helped strengthen the decision to return to Alberta after she completed her education. Today they own a house in Edmonton where he continues to write and record. 2013: recorded the album “the Limited Sky”.
