简介

During my undergraduate studies at Temple University I had the pleasure of taking a course on improvisation taught by Dick Oatts. If you do not know Dick, please take a moment to check out some of his music. You won't leave disappointed. During his class, each student was assigned a different interval to practice. Usually a different interval every week. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interval_(music)) We were instructed to practice this interval in every combination that we could think of. Before the next class session we were also told to write a song based on the interval that we had spent the week practicing. Since that class, the concept of writing songs based on intervals has stuck with me. So much so, that my first album is comprised a short song representing each western music interval. Also at Temple, I had the pleasure of meeting saxophonist extraordinaire Ben Schachter. (Ben) A wonderful musician, and person, who has been my largest musical inspiration to date. For many years we played a weekly gig where I learned to appreciate the endless possibilities of the chordless jazz trio. Our trio consisted of tenor saxophone, upright bass, and drum set. In tribute to this period of musical growth in my life, I have decided to form a trio of my own, continuing in the rich tradition of chordless jazz trio's. Joining me on the album are two very close friends. Paul Jones on the tenor saxophone , and Will Clark on the drums, cymbals and tin cans. Both are Manhattan School of Music graduates, and active members in the New York City music scene. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Alex Sterling in his studio on the upper west side. I cannot speak highly enough about the professionalism of these three gentlemen, and I look forward to recording many more projects with them.
