简介
Along with Joe’s Signature, K’Jon has delivered the second great adult-oriented R&B record of 2009. Rather than cater to the club and the strip joint, I Get Around radiates the elegant ambiance of a ballroom affair, and instead of pursuing some stuffy, retroactive vision of soul music, K’Jon illuminates his album with several flourishes. Whether it is the funky violin riff that circles around “This Time,” or the talkbox whimsy of “What’s Really Good,” the subtle touches keep the album fresh and anchored in the present moment. This is not to ignore the fact that the spirit of Teddy Pendergrass, Marvin Gaye and Bill Withers permeates “I Get Around,” “Fly Away” and “On the Ocean,” three songs that are as timeless as any R&B released this year. I Get Around comes together on “Fa Sho,” a song that feels at once futuristic and nostalgic, and is equally akin to Marvin Gaye and Gnarls Barkley.
