简介

It was a sunny day in the spring of 1976. Jimmy Don't and Drag Triplet were sipping tequila on the deck of Koko Johnson's yacht, somewhere in the Sea of Cortez. I remember Shef had some amazing "stuff" on board. Shef had come along to do a photo shoot for a JC Penney swimsuit line, so there were a few models on board partying, but that's another story. Normally it would just be Koko, Don't and Drag on these "fishing" trips, but Shef needed a boat to use for the shoot, and I was writing an article for the Sacramento Bee about the possibility of moving the Oakland Raiders up the river to Sacramento (Don't and Triplet were major share holders at the time). I never finished that article or went back to work for the Bee. One of the models brought an 8-track that she had to play (over, and over, and over) during her photo shoot. I think it was her boyfriend's band or something. This music would change the worlds of Don't and Triplet. They sat, speechless, staring at the speaker next to the mini-bar as if it were going to attack and they needed to be ready. Hours, and tequila shots, went by when suddenly Jimmy Don't exploded upright and yelled from the bottom of his stomach, "Stop the tape!" Don't grabbed Triplet by the towel and drug him down to the back cabin of the boat and slammed the door behind them. Everything went silent on deck as if time had stopped. The ocean calmed. We could hear yelling from the cabin, but nothing comprehendable. Like loud crying. After an hour or so, I snuck down to the cabin door to see what was going on. Quiet. I pressed my ear to the door, and there it was: one completely serene guitar chord. And then another. Don't and Triplet emerged from the cabin a few minutes later with guitars in hand, Koko turned on the microphones and made drinks for everyone. For the rest of the evening, Don't and Triplet played music for us. A new music. We had never heard anything like it, but it was almost like it came from our souls, as well as theirs. The rest is for you. -Beau Fuvemm
