简介
This song is a duet of Silent Night sung in German by David Jackman and in English by Andrew Wheelwright. It is a tribute to the true story of what happened on the World War I battlefield during Christmastime of 1914. British, French, and Belgian soldiers were huddled in trenches on one side of Flanders Field with German soldiers on the other. Both armies were composed of young men who had left their homes in hopes of promoting the cause of their country. Between them lay a distance of only about 60 yards--where lay the frozen bodies of fallen soldiers from both sides. As Christmas approached, the men on both sides found their hearts and their minds turning more and more toward home--and toward heaven. As carols were heard coming from both sides in their native languages, music became the weapon of choice. A German voice was heard singing the familiar tune Stille Nacht, and the Allied Forces responded in kind. The soldiers ventured out of their trenches to help their enemies bury their dead. Many exchanged gifts and even played soccer together. When the war resumed after Christmas, both sides refused to fight. Although commanded to shoot, the soldiers chose to aim only at the sky. While it was true that they were armed outwardly, their hearts had been disarmed as they shared together their common bond of Christmas. We've tried to capture the message of this story in our arrangement here. To us, it is a message of love and peace--a story which reflects the true message of Christmas itself. We hope it makes your celebration of the season even more meaningful as you remember The Christmas Truce of 1914.
