by Thom OwensGary Primich's eponymous album is an uneven collection, hampered by a handful of rote, by-the-book tracks but its best moments are vibrant, eclectic and quite exciting. Unfortunately, the album gets off to a weak start, running through a bunch of uptempo blues-rockers. After those are through, Primich begins to open up his sound, diving deep into New Orleans R&B, as well as some jump blues and Latin-tinged rhythms. It's on these numbers that Primich reveals his talents as a vocalist and harpist, not on the conventional numbers.
