简介
And now the wait is over. On Tuesday, September 11, 2007, you’ll get to hear what is described as ”an emotionally super-charged sonic roller coaster ride through hope, love and life”. Mountain is the next step in Allan Chapman’s musical evolution and a worthy companion to it’s predecessor, embarking on new musical territory while remaining true to it’s rock & soul roots. Like All We Are, all songs were written, arranged, performed, engineered and produced by Chapman. The album sports 14 exciting tracks. As one reviewer wrote: “Allan Chapman’s songs are passionate, thought-provoking and compelling, rivaled only by his unique ability to take covers and make them his own. His live performance is powerful with his distinct sound, fusing a robust vibrato (along with some great accompanist musicians) and rhythmic guitar stylings which practically force the audience to get up and dance.” And, as another reviewer wrote, "Listening is believing". We think you'll agree. From the album notes: "If you look up the definition of the word “mountain” in the dictionary, you'll find several. One states "a natural elevation of the earth's surface rising more or less abruptly to a summit, and attaining an altitude greater than that of a hill, usually greater than 2000 ft." Another claims “a large mass of something resembling this, as in shape or size or a huge amount, as in “a mountain of laundry”. In any case, Mountain depicts something of mass - a hugeness, which is why I chose it as a title to represent this body of work. This album was originally conceived in 2003 following the loss of a relationship. Originally intended to be titled Love, Loss, Pain and Forgiveness, the songs bore a turbulent tone through content and arrangement. My only other intention was the idea that I provide for myself a clean landscape for which to create - all ideas welcomed, a limitless universe of possibilities and opportunities – to jam/improvise with myself. The album, however, took an even more somber tone at the beginning of 2006. During the recording of this album, my father, Arthur Chapman, lost his life to cancer. My dad was neither interested in rock and roll nor other “disposable” forms of electric music which created loud "noise". His passion was jazz and we would often debate about the merits of each genre. He was a rigid, opinionated man. That said, he did pass to me the gift of his inbred musical talents and for that I am eternally grateful. Due to this, the project was abruptly abandoned three quarters into completion. When I thought it was finally time to get back to work months later, I couldn't bring myself to do so. There were too many painful memories attached to the record. Instead, I adopted a lighter, more fun musical project for Summer 2006 in PJ's Fantasy, promising to complete Mountain when the time was right. Upon recording the PJ's record in 13 days, I went into a self-imposed isolation to dig deeper. So, here it is, January 2007. As I write this missive, I have 7 songs "in the can" - that is, recorded and mixed, ready for mastering and manufacturing. Many things have transpired since the beginning of these recordings one year ago this month. Among these lie introspection, understanding and growth. And the title Mountain has never been more appropriate, referencing not only the music on the record for which it was named but for many other things as well - the mountain of debris excavated in order to get to "the other side" and the enormity of that endeavor." About the artist: Hailing from the NY metropolitan area, Allan Chapman has spent most of his life creating - singing, playing, performing, writing and recording in local clubs, cafes and festivals. Spending much of his time as a contributing artist in various bands, Allan has singlehandedly written, recorded & produced 3 full length albums in a span of 3 years - All We Are, Mountain & PJ's Fantasy.
