简介

Komakakino is a traditional Hawaiian group, home based in Keaukaha, Hilo, Hawai‘i. Komakakino is made up of Koma Wana, Namaka DeMello, Kinohi Neves, and Christian Wadlington. Koma attended the Kamehameha Schools, Kea‘au Campus, Kea‘au, Hawai‘i (class of 2010). Namaka and Kinohi are fluent in the Hawaiian Language having graduated from the Nāwahīokalani‘ōpu‘u Public Charter School (class of 2010) and being raised within the Pūnana Leo education system from early childhood. Christian hails from Portland, Oregon and completes the Komakakino sound. Komakakino explores a wide voice range, including harmony in the falsetto style unique to Hawai‘i. Each of "The Boys", as they are affectionately called, are able to alternate on the ukulele, guitar and stand-up bass with ease and confidence. Their second CD, E Nipo Mai, consists of eight original haku mele compositions by Komakakino and Kumu Hula Paul K. Neves. In addition, four traditional Hawaiian musical pieces are included and have their unique arrangement signature. Koma, Namaka, and Kinohi are hula brothers of Hālau Ha‘a Kea o Kinohi under the direction of Kumu Hula Paul K. Neves, Kinohi’s father. They have performed as musicians, dancers, and ho‘opa‘a in several competitions and performances. Christian, nicknamed Huliluna, joined “The Boys”, Komakakino, two years ago. Kumu Paul heard his steel guitar in Hilo’s Lili‘uokalani Park. He was playing “Sweet Leilani”, which we have included in this CD release. Huliluna has a very unique sound, very Hawaiian, and a little out of the box! This style really colors the Komakakino sound!
