Following Bob Marley’s mantra “reggae music is music by the people”, the Canadian dub producer Brent Colby aka HiFi Champion created an authentic 15 track debut album. Globalistic unites the consciousness of the reggae tradition with modern dub vibes. In this spirit, Brent, along with featured artists from around the world, expresses his take on current issues and global realities. From the war in Congo to unemployment and homelessness in industrial nations, they cover a broad range of topics close to their hearts. Combined with uplifting rhythms and bright melodies, this album is designed to engage, inspire and surprise you. Brent Colby has been active in the reggae and dub scene for more than twenty years during which he earned credibility as an acclaimed live performer. He possesses an unparalled understanding of what a crowd wants. While he enjoyed playing shows with his bands Top Ranking and Swinging Relatives, he turned to writing original music early on. In 1992, he went to Kingston, Jamaica, to record with Chaka Demus and the producer Cornell Marshall from “Third World”. Brent thoroughly enjoyed his stay in Jamaica working at the famous Mixing Lab and meeting experienced musicians. After many live performances and opening for international acts from Toots and the Maytals to Maxi Priest and Buju Banton, Brent focused again on creating original music. Since 2011, he has been writing, recording and producing under the pseudonym HiFi Champion. He is ready to embark on a new journey and to experiment with raw dub sounds.
