简介
I am a lover of music - always have been, always will be. The opening lyric of "Let it go" pretty much says it all: "When I was a little girl, my momma told me that music makes the world go round." That's it right there. I have always been surrounded by music - whether it was the 10 years of classical piano I thought I'd never get through, discovering the blues at a dive bar in DC, or enjoying one of many Allman Brothers shows at the Beacon - music has been an ever present source of joy and release in my life. Music is my friend. Corny, but oh, so true. Fortunately, it seems that I am not alone. I have been lucky enough to find other musicians who not only share this feeling, but also know how to groove. New York is a city full of fantastic musicians who all know that at the end of the day, it's all about the groove. So I've been living in Brooklyn since the end of 97' and trying to sing with as many of these cats as is possible. In the spring of 1999 I formed Carolynn Black & The Blues - a five-piece blues outfit with a little bit more. We'd always start out with a blues or two to warm up, stretch out, take a walk around the block, and then venture out into the different worlds of rock, country, funk and jazz. I've always thought that music should take you on a journey. We hosted a weekly blues jam for almost two years at The Wreck Room, a cozy little Greenwich Village bar, allowing us the opportunity to really experiment and work on my original tunes, culminating on the release of our debut, "Let it go" in March, 2001. Self-produced, and wholly collaborative in effort, "Let it go" contains nine original tunes, and "I can't make you love me," an homage to one of my all -time heroes, Bonnie Raitt. The songs range in style from country to rock, from blues to alternative - I can only attribute this to my own wide-ranging tastes. As far as my sound goes, people have told me that I remind them of Janis Joplin and Bonnie Raitt, as well as Etta James and Chaka Kahn- kind of a soulful country thing. The album is really a collection of confessions, f-you's, and mostly true stories (names have been omitted to protect the not-so-innocent) that may offer some insight in to my highly-educated yet delicately-twisted mind. Currently, Carolynn Black & The Blues can be found playing in and around NYC as a four- piece, with Pete Margolis on guitar, Dean Zucchero on bass, and Yoshi Shimada on drums, playing orginals (old and new) the blues, and everything in between.
