"The Citadel" is a concept album. The first in a trilogy by the new SIN73 line-up. Founding members Darren Soliven and Gerard K. Gonsalves are joined by new member Jimmy Caterine on Guitars and backing vocals and for this release, Mark Caldeira on Lead Vocals. THE CITADEL chronicles the struggles of D3V1N, a bio-mechanically enhanced soldier who returns to Earth in 5517 A.D. after a years-long war across the stars. He finds his home planet utterly devastated by nuclear war... Haunted by visions which he knows are clues to his past, D3V1N tries to find a way to restore his lost memory, and find the love of his life, who has been put into cryo-sleep awaiting his return.... Every step of the way, he is hunted by a team of ruthless scavengers led by the sadistic Carver, who will stop at nothing to harvest the valuable technology within D3VIN’s body... SYNOPSIS : We begin with a prologue, FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT. It is the year 4157A.D. Technology rules the day and Earth is locked in a fierce interplanetary war. The Global Federation is looking for strong men willing to undergo bio-mechanical enhancements and become fighting machines. Their memories are suppressed for the duration of their tours, and their loved ones await their return in the white abyss of cryo-sleep. Years pass, war wages on. In COLLAPSING INTO ABSENTIA, we learn the plight of D3V1N. A bio-mechanically enhanced soldier, war weary and disillusioned, he has become separated from his squadron and flies aimlessly through space. Out of desperation to find his way home, D3V1N flies into a collapsing black hole, risking his life. FLYING BLIND, he emerges from the black hole and sees Earth looming ahead of him. Unable to establish communication, and with no landing beacon to guide his way, he crash lands. He emerges from his ship to find a world ruined by war, underneath a BURNING SKY. In CHAOS IS KING, we meet Carver and his band of tech-scavengers, who rape and pillage the land for any remaining pieces of technology. They value cyber-soldiers especially, for the tech within their bodies. Per his programming, D3V1N reports to GEMINI STATION to have his memories unsuppressed. But he arrives to find the facility in ruins, leaving one remaining place to retrieve his memories - a central processing station known as the Citadel. The location of the Citadel is unknown to D3V1N. In REMEMBER THE EVE, D3V1N’s flashbacks to his previous life are starting to unnerve him. He is haunted by dreams/flashes of a beautiful woman and an idyllic life. These fuel his desire to retrieve his memories. Lost, and having no idea how to find the Citadel, D3V1N runs afoul of Carver and his roving gang who berate him as a WRETCHED MACHINE. They capture D3V1N and string him up. Carver begins tearing into D3V1N, THE WIRED MAN, opening him up and removing parts. Suddenly, a being of pure energy emerges from D3V1N. In it, D3V1N sees the form of an ARC ANGEL, made purely of luminous electricity, and it burns Carver and his men to a blackened crisp. It then frees D3V1N and reveals to him the location of the Citadel. D3V1N at last reaches his destination - THE CITADEL. It’s quiet and dark, the machines inside long dormant. But behind a hidden door he finds a working console and is made whole again, his memories fully restored. He knows where his wife awaits in cryo-sleep. In OPEN YOUR EYES, he locates his wife, but the cryogenics facility is in severe disrepair. He is dismayed that the power cell on her cryo-chamber is nearly depleted. He needs to reactivate her chamber to awaken her safely Only his power cell is strong enough to accomplish this task, but it will kill him to use it up. As his last act, he connects his power cell to the chamber, and falls to the ground. His wife awakens and finds D3V1N's body lying at her feet.
