Eau de Vie was a song I composed whilst staying in an apartment in the heart of Orchard Road in Singapore. As I was surrounded by Hotels and Entertainment establishments which I worked at I was inspired by the constant buzz emanating from this environment.

A short walk from where I lived (The Delfi Orchard) was the Hilton Hotel where I began my early years performing in a jazz Trio with feisty local jazz legend Louis Soliano. Just opposite my apartment I literally began my music career working with another local legend and at the time (1970s) was about the only jazz violinist in Singapore - the inimitable Julai Tan. During my stay in Delfi I was in the midst of a 6 year term with the Four Seasons Hotel where I led a wonderful team of musicians with legendary bassist Victor Gaskin (USA) and local drum legend Sanip Ismail as my ace rhythm section who are featured on this track. Our Sunday Jazz Brunch gig was the talk of the town between 1995-2001 with the most prominent homegrown jazz flautist Wendy Low featured on this track and who earlier released her own album "Busy doing Something" which I help produce. With this fertile backdrop I just woke up one morning with a musical riff in my head which was the impetus for the melody line for Eau de Vie which soon made its debut as the title track of the album Eau de Vie (2000), the essence of life - I continue to live and learn - Boni de Souza
