Artist-Tom Paley Title-"Beware young ladies!" Featuring-Bert Deivert Label-Gravitation, Sweden Contact-info@gravitation.nu Cat.nr. gra023 Tom Paley: Vocals, Acoustic guitar, banjo, fiddle. Bert Deivert: Acoustic guitar, vocals, weissenborn, banjo, mandolin. Recorded, Mixed and Mastered by Gunnar Backman at Brakophonic 2005-2006. Tom Paley was born and raised in New York City, where he first fell in love with old-time music. He began playing guitar and 5-string banjo and quickly excelled at both instruments. He briefly performed in a duo with the folk musician Woody Guthrie. Later, he helped form THE NEW LOST CITY RAMBLERS, with Mike Seeger and John Cohen. This group inspired a greater mainstream interest in traditional roots music, swapping the popular British folk stylings of the era for a homespun country sound, one that would define American music. This was particularly inspiring to Bob Dylan, who credits The Ramblers with being the reason he began writing folksongs. Dylan also drops Tom’s name in the ‘World Gone Wrong’ liner notes as well as in his biography, having recorded versions of “Tom’s songs” which were actually trad standards. After The Ramblers broke up Paley formed The Old Reliable String Band with Roy Berkeley and Artie Rose. Tom eventually moved to Sweden, where he lived from 1963 to 1965, before moving to England where he has resided ever since. Tom continues to tour in America and Europe both solo and with other musicians. (notes assisted by Jim Kelly-www.parasol.com)
