This reissue CD marks the debut of an important subsidiary of Jazz Legacy, Inc. (C) - Naima Records. The purpose is to create an artist directed venue for the documentation and dissemination of my musical visions. The year 1997 has been an exceptionally good one for me capped off by receiving the "Living Legacy Jazz Award" from the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation. I am indeed honored to follow in the footsteps of previous designees, 1994 - Clark Terry, 1995 - Robert "Boysie" Lowery and 1996 - Barry Harris. It is both gratifying and humbling to be given this designation after many years of working diligently in the development of my performance craft. I also continue to work in a variety of ways to aid in the continuing recognition of this great art form. My thanks to my wife Magdalena, family, friends, mentors, colleagues, students and fans who continue to nurture me in my awareness that we are the sum of many parts. The musicians include: Larry Ridley, acoustic and electric bass; Sonny Fortune, alto and soprano saxophone; Cornell DuPree, guitar; Onaje Allan Gumbs, acoustic and electric piano, clavinet, string synthesizer; Grady Tate, drums; Erroll "Crusher" Bennett, congas, percussion.
