简介
Gabe Hensley (vocalist), his brother Nate (bass), and their friend Kyle Keith (guitarist) grew up on the same street in a small Kentucky town. Coming up, they played little league ball, did a little fishin, skipped some school, chewed too much tobacco, and even played music together in their high school talent show. It was during those years when they all “cut their teeth”, sharpened their chops, and caught the fever—there was nothing better than playing a gig and they played one every chance they got. Their musical roads diverged briefly in the late 90’s, but they reunited during their college years to form the group now known as The Other Brothers—a band built on one rule that it is still governed by to this day…have fun or take a bow and leave. Dozens of musicians have had a blast and took “the bow” with the band over the years; and though most of them have moved on to do far more boring things(;P), they remain friends and have earned the right to call themselves an Other Brother; a local tag that is well-known and respected. The genuine spirit of friendship and community is apparent at every show and former members and fellow musicians will usually find themselves welcomed to join in on a few songs at an Other Brothers performance. Local Yocals Lexington's musical congregation has never been less than judicious in choosing what they will deem worthy of their attention. Working through this barrier of vigilant discrimination, The Other Brothers have made a flock of Lexington's true music junkies love them through the sheer sophistication and sincerity of their performances. They are also well-known and well-loved for their interactions with fans. Even though their demeanor is loose and free flowing, their attitude on-stage and in their business affairs is never less than professional. They can play in almost any market and succeed in making people love their genuine, soulful sound. First Try The Other Brothers first album, Heart Handcuffs, was basically recorded on the fly in response to an outcry from fans who had been watching the band play live for years and wanted some recorded material. The Other Brothers had basically been a cover band up until then. Playing only the tastiest of deep-cuts from truly respected artists and approaching them with finesse and a real appreciation of the song they were covering. They made songs their own while maintaining the essence of the original script. Fans and band members wanted more. And so, 10 songs that lead singer Gabe Hensley and lead guitarist and fellow founder of the group Kyle Keith had written, mostly in their late teens, were recorded as quickly as possible. They recorded primarily at a tiny studio in Pittsburg PA. Gabe's brother and now bassist for The Other Brothers, Nate Hensley, was living there at the time performing with a “flash in the pan” band that went by the name of “The Yards”. They finished the mixing process for Heart Handcuffs in Lexington at the home studio of friend and local producer/performer Otto Helmuth. Self-releasing the album, in 2009 the band sold and handed out nearly 1000 copies in their hometown and regionally out of suitcases, cardboard boxes, or the trunks of their cars. The band was happy with the outcome of Heart Handcuffs. They had gotten to work with several fellow artists and musicians; many of which had dedicated their time and efforts for free. They received invaluable studio experience and advice, not to mention being able to put out their own original music to fans for the first time and hearing their songs played over local radio stations. Happy... but not satisfied. High Life 'n' Leisure Class In late 2010 The Other Brothers had a new lineup that had been together since basically right after the album release. Gabe Hensley, lead vocalist; Kyle Keith lead guitarist; Recently returned to town Nate Hensley on bass; the incredibly talented vocalist, song writer, and drummer Dan Mohler on drums; and locally legendary saxophonist Dave Clark, came together to form the best squad the band had yet known. They decided it was time to get back in the studio and take their time creating an epic album that would accurately express The Other Brother's true artistic form. Something that would expose not only the band's abilities towards song writing and composition, but the historical magnitude of the artistic struggles and conquests encountered along the outfit's path. They decided this needed to be a locally grown, locally known project and so they picked a local studio called Nitrosonic, owned by Brian Pulito; member of Nine Pound Hammer, well-known recording/engineering genius for countless bands out of Lexington, Nashville, etc., and just one hell-of-a-drummer. This wound up being a perfect fit; The Other Brothers’ vision and Pulito's seemed to line up perfectly to create the upcoming album, High Life-n-Leisure Class. Lots of outside talent agreed to help out. Jonny 'Keys' Grossman, former keyboardist for The Other Brothers before moving to the Austin, TX scene, plays on the majority of the tracks. Locally known violinist, Rachael Yanarella helps give Kyle Keith's Livin by the String it's slightly eerie, mountain sound. Pedal steel guitarist, Andy Gibson, throws down on Gabe's tune, Southern Son, making it sound like solid country gold. The album is a fantastic combination of soulful songwriting, mind-bending improvisational soloing, light-hearted melodies, and an overall heartiness of tone that borders on garage band sound but winds up in an overall Americana rock/honky tonk overture. Other Brother's fans will again be pleasantly surprised at the local favorite's capacity to keep them entertained.
