简介
Paul Siegel has been writing songs since he was twelve years old. He was born and raised in the lower Hudson River Valley of New York State, where rural and urban influences collide. Inspired, as a youth, by the great writing of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Tom Waits, his lyrics are both intelligent and colloquial. Influenced by guitarists from Eric Clapton to Pat Metheny to King Sunny Ade, his style uniquely fuses a sublime rhythmic approach with the beauty of concise melodic statement. His voice ranges from a quiet intimacy to an enthusiastic growl evoking the blues and folk and funk vocalists of our American traditions. Having the good fortune to play with great musicians he has led various projects dedicated to his material. Dogtalk, an "infectious groove" funky rock band (think Talking Heads) from 1985-1990; Charley Django, a grunge rock band featuring Paul's unique flavor (think Pearl Jam meets Dave Matthews) from 1993-1996; Baggabones, embracing more of our folk traditions, from 1998-1999; his most recent band, Chester, featured players Paul has been wanting to play with for quite a while; his latest solo release "After Willoughby Station" embraces the challenge of intimacy in the singer/songwriter aesthetic. Paul's dedication to discovering the timelessness of what makes a song great is his virtue. He truly is a remarkable songwriter. Paul has witnessed the overwhelming positive response of his audience on the grassroots level (from the East Coast in New York State, to the San Franciso Bay Area.
