简介
James "Bull" Canty is a trumpet player from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, who started his musical life at 3 years of ae on the piano before discovering the world of wind instruments at 10. He was a low brass player (primarily tuba) up until his graduation from Brevard College in 2000. It was during that year James took a very influential lesson with the late legend Maynard Ferguson which convinced him that he needed to become a trumpeter full time. Since then, Mr. Canty has played a number of cruise ships, theater shows, and live performances. At the urging of his late grandmother, Mary C. Canty, he decided to record his first album, The Gospel According To Brass, in 2014. That project was a variety of hymns that James grew up with in church as a child and as a man. James "Bull" Canty's sophomore independent project, "Christmas Brass", is a collection of classic yuletide favorites that has been made over with various styles including jazz, rock, B&B, and Latin, and features some really talented guest artists, such as Curtis McDonald and Wayne Cockfield on guitar, Larry M. Jackson and Hans Nelson on keys, David Rahjae’ on percussion and vocals,Thomas Spittle on bass trombone, and a special appearance by Everett Golson on a myriad of instruments! This album is dedicated to the memory of the late Mary C. Canty, who was Mr. Canty's spiritual guide on Earth and showed him how to walk firmly in faith and show people who he really is. She showed him that above all else, Jesus is the reason for the season.
