Gideon James is no stranger to the music scene but for Carnival 2007 this ‘son of St Vincent” hits the airwaves with music that can only be described as pulsating, stimulating and purely infectious. Gideon was born on the beautiful island of Bequia and in his early years found himself in love with music. His talents were obvious to those who were close to him, including his primary school teacher Eldon Hazell, who introduced him to and fostered his interest in music. With the necessary passion and talent at his fingertips, Gideon took seriously his potential contribution to the development of music in his homeland and joined several music bands. In his formative music years Gideon’s first bands, Merrits, from his hometown in Paget Farm Bequia, and Comets, allowed him to explore and develop his talents before he moved to Kingstown to continue his musical journey with the bands the Ambassadors and Gravity. It was as a result of the drive, passion, commitment and the genuine decency of the man known as Gideon James that Bryan Alexander invited him to join the extraordinary and popular band Touch. Gideon and Touch were a captivating force and Gideon reminisces about performing with Touch all over the world but has special memories of Belgium and Columbia. These experiences he says will forever be a part of him no matter where he lives or performs. Gideon’s many hits with Touch include the Caribbean Fusion melodies ‘Black Sugar Woman”, ‘Sexy & Irie’, ‘Loving Can’t Done” and ‘Tamika”, the soca ballads ‘jubilee’ and ‘Rock You Real Bad’ and the gospel track ‘Time for Prayer”. Gideon is a simple but so special man that it is no surprise that his passion and drive for music have culminated in his latest hit album So Special which signals his explosive return to the Vinci carnival scene. The first releases, ‘U-turn”, ‘Come Home” and ‘Work It’, are so popular that the album is flying out of record stores. So Special, recorded at Sky Studios and produced by Adrian Bailey, sees Gideon teaming up with new Soca artistes Icon and Alla-G. Also included on the album is an old Touch favourite ‘Tamika”. In 2007 Gideon became the first artist to be signed by St. Vincent’s first and only record label, Magma Music Group. Gideon wishes to recognize the love, patience, understanding and support afforded to him by God, his children, friends, co-workers, supporters and fans.
