简介

No one exemplifies the words – The Difficulties of Life Are To Make Us BETTER, Not BITTER, than Lloyd Churchill St. Clair Williams. Williams and his six siblings were born to Adlyn and James D. Williams in Cairn Curran, Westmoreland. He attended Cairn Curran Elementary school and later, Stratford High School in Kingston. He went to Holmwood Technical School in Christiana on a scholarship where he studied Agriculture. In 1959 Williams emigrated to England and in 1964 while performing, members of TRIADS which at that time was the best soul band in Europe heard him. After the show he was asked to join the Triads. Williams accepted and toured with the Triads, which were now Soul Caravan. Lloyd Williams’s knowledge of music reads like a musical encyclopaedia. When the late Jimi Hendrix needed an opening act for his show at the Flamingo in Soho, London, twenty-five bands auditioned and Lloyd Williams won with his rendition of Ben E. King’s standard, STAND BY ME. He toured with the Soul Caravan when they went to Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, West Germany and Italy to perform with Hendrix. Soul Caravan played and Williams sang with Ben E. King, the Beatles, Sandy Shaw, Dusty Springfield, Mick Jagger, Jimmy Cliff, Millie Jackson, Otis Redding, Eddie Floyd, Jimmy James and the Vagabonds, the Equals. Williams sang at the Upper Cut, The Q Club, The Roaring Twenties, The Playboy Club, Simentico, The Marquee, he worked with Eric Clapton, The Cream which consisted of E.C. Bruce and Ginger Baker. In 1968 after finishing a television show in Munich, Germany, the tour bus on its way to another television show in Sardinia, flipped over on the highway killing four band members, injuring three whose careers and independence were gone in a nanosecond. Lloyd Williams escaped unscathed with a TORN SOCK! Williams stopped singing. Ben E. King persuaded him to resume singing as it would be therapeutic. Slowly he emerged from his depression and King introduced him to Stevie Wonder who invited Lloyd to accompany him at the California Ballroom in Dunstable, England. At the close of the show, Wonder invited Williams to the United States of America. In 1970 Williams came to the United States where he worked with Stevie Wonder at the famous Apollo, was introduced to and worked with The Temptations, Little Charles, the Moments and the late Wilson Pickett. At a Christmas concert with the Buccaneers, Aston Ebanks, Owner- Manager of the Debonaires invited Williams to attend one of the band’s rehearsals. After the rehearsal he was offered to be the lead singer. He traveled all over the United States with the Debonaires. Williams took a sabbatical to reassess his life during which he wrote lyrics for his repertoire. Raised a Moravian, today he sings a different genre of music – GOSPEL. In 2003 Williams employed music engineers and musicians to work with him in his studio. The lyrics from his repertoire made tracks for a Gospel Album, aptly called, PEACE. One of his daughters Nicole, herself a singer, accompanied him on the album of which he said, “we are doing the album our way – we are not imitators, but originators.” PEACE was released February 11, 2006 at Tremont Terrace Moravian Church in The Bronx.
