There's an out of print (no cd, vinyl or digital) Silver Jews EP from 20 years ago called the 'Arizona Record' which offers inspired, though sometimes unfinished, compositions from both Stephen Malkmus of 'Pavement' and equally brilliant songsmith David Berman of 'Silver Jews'. Recorded into a cassette answering machine (seriously), "West S" is undoubtedly the 'LOST' unfinished Pavement song (circa Slanted & Enchanted/Watery Domestic era). The tune is so obscure that we've found just one clip of Malkmus himself performing it on the web (and in an equally unfinished state). So obscure, that when we tried to get permissions for our cover version, the label reps at Matador and Domino were unable to help us. Perhaps Malkmus never even bothered to publish it? But we hear gold. And this is our attempt to, just once, try and recapture and revisit that great great Pavement vibe from circa 1994. Enjoy!
