Frederic Chopin composed his wonderful E minor Piano Concerto in Poland at the age of nineteen. For the first performance he was accompanied by a string quartet, before orchestrating it for grand orchestra and piano. On this album Slovenian pianist Natasha Majer and conductor Volker Hartung recreate this original version using a string orchestra setting consisting of players by the Cologne New Philharmonic. The result is a beautifully balanced sound in a fascinating interpretation, recorded in the great acoustics of Hamburg’s Laeisz Concert Hall in Germany.
