The song was written by Barny Robertson in honor of Nikki Mitchell, who lost her battle to pancreatic cancer on July 9, 2013. 50% of the proceeds from the downloads of this song will be donated to the Nikki Mitchell Foundation. The Nikki Mitchell Foundation (NMF) is dedicated to seeking and supporting the most breakthrough data available for the early detection and cure of pancreatic cancer. Not tied to any one hospital, the NMF supports the most promising research while maintaining a focus on awareness and patient support. NMF actively promotes a special emphasis on prevention and the patients' preferences in determining their care.

The daughter of a Dust Bowl immigrant, Carter Robertson was born in Central California, and raised in the opposing worlds of her mother’s rural church culture and her father’s tendency to walk on the wild side. She has worked as an artist, writer, and background singer in the music industry for most of her life. She traveled and recorded as a member of Waylon Jennings' band for many years--first in the "Waylors" all through Country Music’s Outlaw era, and then again with Waymore's Blues Band the last 3 years before Waylon passed. Carter has recorded over 17 albums with Waylon and his wife Jessi Colter. Her voice is the one people hear singing backgrounds on songs such as "Ain't Livin" Long," "Luckenbach Texas" "Are You Ready for the Country," "Come with Me" etc. She & her husband Barny were also a part of the legendary "Never Say Die" concert recorded live at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville TN. Her recording credits include Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, James Taylor, Don Was and many others.
