Xani Kolac (electric violin/vocals) + Mark Leahy (drums) —- “I’m ready to move”, sings electric violinist/vocalist, Xani Kolac on the new single, First Light from violin/drums duo, The Twoks, set for independent release on February 26th, 2014. It’s the theme for 2014 as Xani and drummer, Mark Leahy are raising the bar after three years of building up to this very moment. “The Twoks has always been about evolution,” says Xani and First Light is a leap in this direction as it marks the first collaboration with acclaimed Sydney producer, Tony Buchen (The Preatures, Andy Bull). Putting their trust in Tony’s production experience and creativity, The Twoks are proud to call this single their best yet. Letting a producer in says a lot about a bands’ willingness to let go. “Tony did more than craft a song, he helped us to shape a sound. Out came our love for artists like Kate Bush, Robyn, Phoenix, Daft Punk, Prince and St. Vincent - influences previously left out when describing our music.” The Twoks have played St Kilda Festival, DARK FOMO (Tas), Wave Rock Weekender (WA), Woodford Folk Festival (QLD) Port Fairy Folk Festival and a season at Edinburgh Fringe Festival (UK). Xani is the predominant songwriter and trained violinist who did her time in classical violin and studied jazz at university at the prestigious Victorian College of the Arts. “I have played the violin my whole life, but I can’t stand still. I’ll play the violin like it’s a drum kit or I’ll send it through a Fender or octave pedals and most of all, I enjoy the challenge of performing our songs live - just the two of us. I just let go, dive in and let it all pour out of me.” Mark may be relaxed in person, but behind the drums and in the presence of a looping violin, unrelenting and powerful. With an unconventional line-up and happy disposition, everyone gets excited about The Twoks.
