简介
I have been singing for as long as I can remember. I was one of those kids who was raised in the church from a very early age. We literally were there just about every time the doors were unlocked. I remember singing every week in our little children's choir at Baptist Grove Baptist Church in Fuquay-Varina, NC and then sharing our favorite Bible verses. My dad was the volunteer choir director/music leader at the time, and I definitely grew up with a love for music, and eventually learning to love the Lord as well. Like a lot of good little kids, I walked the aisle during a revival service when I was about six years old. I prayed the prayer, signed the card, and I was told that I was saved! But, the only problem was I had no idea what I had been saved from, or why I needed to be saved. It wasn't until a few years later that I realized that I had been a sinner, and that I needed Jesus to change my heart and my mind and make me a new person, and that the only way that could happen was for me to have a personal relationship with Him. It was at that point that I truly surrendered to Christ to do whatever He wanted with my life. As I began to develop in my faith, my love for music continued to grow as well. Early on, a youth pastor at our church began to introduce me to Contemporary Christian Music. I remember getting my first little tape player/radio for my 11th birthday and my first three tapes: Michael Card, Ray Boltz, and Carmen! I became fascinated with the idea of playing and creating music about Jesus. My uncle had given me a little 3/4 size acoustic guitar, and I wanted so badly to try to learn. My parents had bought me a little guitar book, and I started trying to learn how to play. Fast forward to my teenage years. My family had moved to Asheville, NC and we had joined Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church. I was greatly influenced by a few of the youth leaders there. A man named Blair Waddell and his partner Chuck Meyers had a traveling ministry known as Once Darkness, and they gave me the opportunity to travel around with them and help run the sound and lights for their two man drama and music presentations they would do for other youth groups. Blair began to teach me basic chords and how to play some simple praise songs. My youth pastor, Todd Alewine had been looking for someone willing to help lead in worship for our youth services. I had only learned a couple of songs when I began playing at church at the age of 13, but we sang those songs over and over until I learned more. I played and lead worship for the youth at MABC all the way into college. Todd and Blair also helped me realize the call of God on my life to ministry. I was still a shy teenager, but I could sense the Lord had a greater purpose for my life. I went to high school at Asheville Christian Academy, and looked for any opportunities I could find to sing and play. Eventually, I served as the Upper School chaplain and helped lead and plan weekly worship services for chapel. After high school, I attended North Greenville College in Tigerville, SC. It wasn't long before I again found more opportunities to use the gifts God had given me to minister to others. I joined the BSU praise choir, led by Steven Furtick. I also continued to play and sing, and after meeting and striking up a friendship with Craig Hucks, he and I began to write some original songs. I had also begun writing and singing with my amazingly talented little sister Laura as well. Eventually, I was given the opportunity to join up with a band/ministry team called One Boy's Lunch. I played bass and sang lead, and got my first chance to start playing some of the original songs we had written. In the process of learning and teaching the songs we played, I was introduced to my future wife Abbie, who also sang in the band. We shared the obvious love for music and for the Lord, and over time as we worked side by side, He knit our hearts together and began to develop a love for each other. I had served on staff as a youth minister at a couple of churches in the upstate area. Of course, I incorporated my love for music into my ministry there as well. The last church that I served as youth minister was Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Powdersville, SC. As the Lord was continuing to grow me and shape the calling on my life, I was also greatly blessed and ministered to by my pastor, Johnny Touchet. He taught me that God gives us certain passions in ministry because He wants us to pursue that which gives us joy in a way that will glorify Him. Abbie and I had just gotten married, and it had become clear that the Lord was leading me away from specifically youth ministry into more of an opportunity to minister through my greatest passion: music. After I left Mount Moriah, I started a band with Craig and a few friends that we had met along the way. We called ourselves All Things Together. We played a few local shows and got to travel around a little to play concerts. We even got selected to play at the Talent Showcase at AtlantaFest at Six Flags Over Georgia. The members of that band included Andrew Clough (bass), Dustin Thompson (drums), Brandon Russo (guitar), Craig Hucks (guitar), Kevin Deitche (keyboard), and of course my lovely wife Abbie on vocals. The Lord blessed us with some really cool opportunities - even recording an EP, but alas, it was not meant to last, and eventually the band dissolved, and several of the members moved on to pursue other opportunities God had brought their way. After that, I began playing and singing as a volunteer in the music ministry at Providence Baptist Church. In 2009, the current music minister had resigned, and I was approached with the opportunity to come on staff as the Worship Leader, where I still serve today. God has used my experience at Providence to further grow my understanding of the calling on my life for worship ministry, as well as strengthening those gifts. I have had opportunities to write several more original worship songs born out of the verse by verse exposition of the scriptures by Dr. Paul Dean. A couple of years ago, we began a study of the book of Revelation. Over a two year period spent studying this book, the Lord blessed me with 12 new original songs all based out of this book. Finally, the Lord laid it on my heart to make a professional recording of those songs, and thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign, I have been able to complete my very first full-length studio album, A Vision Of Glory: Songs of the Revelation, releasing in October 2013. God has been so faithful in my life to this point, and I am so excited to see what He has in store beyond this point. At times, I still feel like that shy little kid, but give me a guitar and a song to worship Jesus with, and He gives me a freedom and a joy that can't really be explained. My hope and prayer is that the music I share with you will be an encouragement to you, lead you to worship, and point you to my Savior. Thanks for stopping by, and may God bless you!
