简介
The origin of the tango is obscure. But many people believe its rhythms were derived from African motifs…others say it came all the way from Spain. Still many others say its perfected form was due to the conscientious and almost fanatical efforts of the Argentine Gaucho in whose country the tango is almost a national dance. In this country, as in America, the tango first became popular before the start of the first world war…until the late Thirties, thanks to the glamorous personality of Rudolf Valentino in whose silent motion pictures are vividly depicted the one-time great screen lover of the world dancing the beautiful tango with his bedimpled leading lady. The PHILIPPINE Tango- one of the most colorful and graceful of dances that we have inherited from the world – is revived by the Rondalla, under the baton of Juan Silos, Jr., for the listening and dancing pleasure of tango fans. The myriad dances that have swept the length and breadth of this country since the turn of the century have come and, as swiftly as they have appeared, faded away like a razzle-dazzle tune. But the tango has remained…and like any old yet lingering melody from way down memory lane will stay for as long as there’s a heart to follow its sinuous rhythms and fanciful steps.
