简介
In 2002, Don and a stellar group of jazz musicians performed five shows at the (now defunct) Top O’ The Senator. These shows were recorded by Danny Greenspoon but the recordings were never made available…until now! When JAZZ.FM91 on-air host and producer Jaymz Bee heard about these existing tapes, he and jazz enthusiast Ray Irwin made a plan to get a CD out as soon as possible. The result is “21st Century Francks”; a ten-track recording featuring a stellar band that includes Steve Hunter (piano and music director), Alex Dean (sax) George Koller (bass), Brian Barlow (drums) and Tox Drohar (congas). Don also chose to include a bonus track – recorded with Jaymz Bee and guitarist Tony Quarrington – as a heads up to a future recording. “21st Century Francks” was produced by Steve Hunter and mastered by Ron Skinner for Iron Buffalo Productions. Jaymz Bee explains: “I had heard Don Francks on vinyl and seen him on TV since I was a kid, but this concert was the first time I ever witnessed him live. I was so blown away I returned each night with a new group of friends!” Molly Johnson adds “Don is a friend of the family and I’ve known him since I was a kid. He showed me that you could have a life in this business…a crazy, fun life!” Veteran DJ Rob Fogle adds, “to my ears, Don Francks is the best male jazz vocalist on this planet!”
