简介
Chicago, early 70s. Greg Herriges is obsessed with Lennon, 12-string guitars and far-out psychedelic sounds. Rick Vittenson is a Beach Boys-Hollies-Who fanatic who writes for Crawdaddy! magazine. Both had previously played in several garage-college bands during the 60s. Combining their mutual love for Sixties music, Athanor was born. With the help of top studio musicians, they recorded and self-released three 45s between 1973 and 1975 which are now highly sought-after by fans of obscure psychedelic pop. Athanor’s music features impressive songwriting & musicianship, a collision of Beatlesque harmony vocals and & 12-string guitars. Here are some reviews of their first album, “Flashback,” on Guerssen Records: “It’s rare an unheard album takes immediate hold on you...Thus far, my fave-rave of this 365.” - Ugly Things "Unsung hometown geniuses...incredible musicians...might be our favorite rare rock discovery yet from the great Guerssen label." - Dusty Groove "...still sounds today like a slice of timeless pop gems" - Somewhere There Is Music "Guerssen have emerged from the rock and roll mine clutching another chunk of gold with this essential collection..." - Active Listener "Recommended x 10,000" - Permanent Record “...essentially they were one of the architects of powerpop, but were seemingly oblivious to the fact that they had a peer group at the time. - Active Listener "...some of the songs could pass for relics from some abandoned and previously presumed lost Apple project now excavated after a lifetime gathering dust in the vaults." - Shindig!
