简介

Welcome to another ‘Dance Party’ with Tony Mottola and His Orchestra. The top flight guitar man directs his breezy group in a series of toe-tapping selections that’s guaranteed to keep the dance floor packed. The calm, reflective phrases, inventive bounce and earthy humor that make up the Mottola sound, is at its crystal-clear best in this album. The music floats lightly about, and establishes a highly conductive dancing mood that seems to linger even after the music has stopped. So enjoy yourself, the ‘Dance Party’ is on. Music with a Latin beat abounds among the variations advanced by the Mottola crew. One offering is a happy cross between the samba and the calypso, interspersed by some lush string bowing, and called Flypso. Tango Of Love has all the usual Spanish shading and flavor with all the feeling of moonlight and castanets, but the Mottola magic adds the extra something that makes the rendition gay and alive. The haunting Song Of The Sea enchants to the rhythms of a sensuous, lilting beguine. Though the title reads Starlight Beguine this dance tune is actually a dream-like ballad that’s as soft as the breeze that stirs the trees on a summer night, and expertly and skillfully handled by Tony and the boys. Other ballads in this subdued, relaxed manner are Childhood Dreams which transports us from our everyday living to a world of toys and trumpets in that wonderful land of “make believe,” and that smooth, sweet and romantic rhythm treatment, You Didn’t Believe Me. Something from out of the past gets a bright future as Tony’s group starts swinging with some carefree tunes. The gavotte, a 17th century French court dance, makes the 20th century scene in a jovial, bouncing novelty called Gavotte In Gee Whizz. Another classic melody transposed into a new idiom, Antonin Dvorak’s Humoresque, takes on a jump outlook in the Mottola arrangement of Dvorak’s Back. The bouncing beat continues in two more selections. One takes place in “heart-setting time” within the framework of a bright and bumptious declaration that sports novel harmonies – I’ve Got My Heart Set On You. The other is a capricious and delightful helter-skelter melody that bubbles along its merry way because it’s Tickled Pink. A couple of novelty tunes complete this fast-paced dance roundup. In The Hick With The Hiccups the orchestra puts the melody through a humorous series of musical hiccups that accentuate the old-time country feeling of the number. In Marionette’s Parade, Tony Mottola proves he can handle anything, including marionettes, as his flying fingers, backed by the orchestra, help to illuminate this novelty tune as clear as life.
